ellid: (Puzzled kitty)
Ever since Arisia, I've had this somewhat crazed desire for a steampunk hall costume. This may or may not be due to seeing [livejournal.com profile] cluegirl and [livejournal.com profile] aquila_dominus in all their glory :), but I've been going through my fabric stash and have come to realize that I have almost everything I need to make something really pretty cool.

Alas, I'm a crappy pattern drafter...so I turned to the world's greatest pattern company and purchased three of their wares.

Watch this space for further developments :) This is going to be mega-spiffy.

What an awesome site
I might buy a the belgian jacket patten to make my next winter jacket. I think it can be done in heavy wool with a quilted lining... it would only require doing a size up to allow for the insulation.

Folkwear patterns are the best I've ever used. The directions are clear, the patterns are sized properly, and most of them come with fascinating instructions for embellishment and a page or two of information on the history of the garment. They're really popular with wearable art buffs and costumers.

Whoa! And here I thought that a frogged jacket and aviator glasses were off-color. Go ellid!

(Do you have links to the specific hall costumes in question? Says the man who is already the Official Creeper of His Daughter's Friends. ;) I worry about clicking on journals and just paging around, creating odd statistics. Thanks.)

Here (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v168/hughborg/Arisia/?action=view&current=IMG_0072.jpg). I'm thinking something sleeker, more like a steampunk Gibson Girl (http://www.neh.gov/news/humanities/2008-07/images/GibsonGirl.jpg) or New Woman, but we shall see....

Woohoo! Welcome to the Sepia side! ;-p

I love steampunk because it lets me play with historical fashion.

Good luck!

I can't wait to see what you come up with.

I played with steampunk for the first time a few Halloweens ago. I haven't really done anything with it since, but still have a strong urge to do so. Hopefully I will be able to do so in the next few months, and some events/venues are coming up.

Like [livejournal.com profile] ladyaelfwynn, I also found the opportunity to play with a different time period of historical costume very fun. Actually, right now I'm having the same fun playing with yet another completely different time period - 1920's.

I look forward to reading the dress diary and seeing what you come up with :)
