Congratulations to Evan Lysacek, 2010 gold medalist in men's figure skating, who won without the quad.

So much for "elite men's skaters must throw a quad if they want to medal."

Sure, if you have two skaters who skate equally well otherwise and one throws a quad, he's gonna win.

But if one skater skates absolutely flawlessly for pretty much every single element (including two difficult triple axels--many think they're harder than the quad toe) and the other guy lands a quad but leans over on his triple axels and barely pulls them off, plus is kinda sloppy in the rest or the program, we saw last night that the whole is greater than the sum of their parts.

Congrats to Lysacek. Clearly the best skater last night.

It was very obvious that Lysacek's routine was much stronger. There was a lot of artistry in that program, not just one big jump and a few sloppy ones. Besides Plushenko is a prick.

BUT WITHOUT THE QUAD IT IS JUST DANCING, ELLID. THEY HAVE KILLED FIGURE SKATING.

Man, what a sore loser: http://www.nbcolympics.com/news-features/news/newsid=430590.html#plushenko+lysacek+true+champion

I think it was Scott Hamilton who pointed out that sport is called ice "skating," not ice "jumping." Plushenko got full marks for his quad jump; it was the rest of his program that wasn't up to snuff. Lysacek, on the other hand, skated a clean, strong program and deserved to win. All of Plushenko's whining just sounds like sour grapes to me.
