Alas, poor tea kettle

Came home to find that our tea kettle, a little $10 steel whistling kettle that stopped whistling many years and countless cups of tea ago, had finally and definitively died thanks to the handle coming off. Roomie is picking up another one this weekend.

It was a good tea kettle, and served us well. Requiescat in pace.

No electric teakettle? Mine broke on tuesday morning and wednesday evening I went and bought a new one. It's apparently the one kintchen appliance I cannot live without...

I've always liked a stovetop one, plus electric kettles are hard to find around here. It's something to keep in mind, though.

I second the electric kettle idea. You can order them from Amazon, if you can't find one locally. I first used one in England, and now I can't live without it!

If you want to keep an eye out when the back-to-college sales start (in July or August) they may have more in stock then. That's how I got mine (at Bed, Bath, and Beyond).

I'm always amused by this - yet another difference between our two countries! Over here, it's incredibly hard to find a NON-electric kettle; in fact, if anyone says 'kettle' they almost certainly mean an electric one. I'm not certain where I'd go to get a stovetop one...
