One of the things I like is that you aren't limited to content only from Barnes & Noble; if it's in ePub or Adobe or even Sony eReader format, you can download and read. I was *really* unhappy about Amazon's content-exclusivity, and I swore I'd never buy a Kindle after hearing about Amazon yanking books from Kindle owners without warning over possible copyright violations. The Nook seems less pissy about it, but then again Barnes & Noble is still primarily a bookstore.
I had no problem at all downloading e-books from Project Gutenberg last night. I did use an e-book management and conversion program called Calibre to help, but I downloaded a baker's dozen of old favorites in about fifteen minutes....
Also one of the pluses about using Calibre and the Nook - anything you can make into a pdf can be converted to epub and put on the Nook. I have some of my faaaaavorite fanfics on there now as well. :)
Yep. My friend Walter (http://www.amazon.com/Walter-H.-Hunt/e/B001HCUWIK/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1) uses me as a first reader sometimes, and it'll be a lot easier to read his books on my Nook than on a computer screen.
