Warning: not for the faint of heart (or stomach):

I went to the doctor yesterday because of a non-life threatening but increasingly disruptive medical condition. I'd seen a general surgeon for this a couple of years ago and really, really disliked him and his approach, so I canceled the whole thing. Yesterday's doctor was a specialist, and after a talk with him and his nurse, I will be undergoing this procedure on July 12, 2010.

I'm not especially happy about this; I'll be out of work for about a week and a half, plus there's the whole pain/ick/debility factor. I've put it off long enough, though.

Considering the other procedure has a greater degree of relapse, I would even consider this procedure if it became necessary. Thanks to my youngest during pregnancy I have occasional problems...*sigh*

Oh my. Good luck and good healing.

Oooh, I'm sorry to hear that. Best wishes for a speedy and painfree recovery. *hugs*

It's not going to be fun no matter what I do, but it's that or continue as I have, which has become intolerable. This procedure has a good success rate so I have hopes.

Thanks. What I'm dreading more than anything is that thanks to my sensitivity to codeine, they won't be able to give me enough painkillers to help right after the operation. *shudder*

Thanks.

Crap :( I'll be hoping for your speedy recovery - that looks harsh.

Oh joy. Now that sounds like a wonderful alternative to Pennsic. Not.

I hope all goes well and you have a swift and painless recovery.

It's not going to be fun, but the condition has reached the point where the bleeding after elimination is making me anemic. It can't go on.

As the late, great, Warren Zevon put:

"I just got back from a short vacation.
Spent it having a root canal.
Oh? How'd you like it?
Well it ain't that pretty at all."

I'd rather go to Pennsic, but in the long run this needs to be taken care of, so it's not like I have much of a choice...:)

I hope you heal quickly and that all goes well.

Pain sucks. Healing is good.

I'll be sending quick healing vibes. *hugs* Your health is always more important than anything else. Good call. I'm just sorry it's necessary.

Whilst the word "staple" always invokes a shudder, it does sound like this is a procedure with a lot going for it. Hope it goes well.

I suffered with these after my son was born, and it is not a nice way to live. (In fact - TMI - I have lost muscle function on one side which is a big part of my problem) I fully expect you'll sail through thee surgery, but the worry is something we just have...I hope yours can be lessened!

Thanks, on all counts.

My mother had them for years, and had complications that resulted in lasting effects. That's one of the reasons I've put off having these dealt with until now. Fortunately surgical techniques have improved greatly since then.

Thanks.

Wishing you a painless and speedy recovery. Some things are really more important than Pennsic as hard as that is to accept sometimes. Be Well soon M'dear.

Eep. I can see why you'd want this to Go Away And Stop Bothering You. I hope that the recovery is quicker and less uncomfortable than you expect! I'll be around; let me know if I can help you with anything.

Oh, ick. Horrible! But I'm sure you'll feel happier afterwards.

That's no fun, but understandable!! Best of luck in recovery.

I have been away and missed this update. I'm sorry you're missing Pennsic. I hope the procedure and the recovery goes well. (Traveling through western MA next Saturday. If you need anything, please advise and I can drop it off.)

It's actually an less invasive and painful technique than the one used on my mother back in 1968 or thereabouts, with a much shorter recovery time. We shall see.

Thanks. It's not fun, but by the end of the summer it will be over and done, thank goodness :)

Before I read the cut, I was thinking, "Oh no... her aneurysm...". I'm glad it's not that but sorry to hear it is what it is. Will be sending all kinds of calming thoughts before and healing thoughts after. **HUGS**
