Peter O'Donnell, creator of adventurer and proto-feminist secret agent Modesty Blaise, died back in May.
For those who haven't encountered Modesty, her sidekick Willie Garvin, and their friends Sir Gerald Tarrant, Jack Fraser, Lady Janet Gilliam, Dinah Pilgrim, and Dinah's husband Steve Collier, you're in for a treat. The novels are vividly written and a great deal of fun (my favorite is probably The Silver Mistress), while the comic strips are some of the best drawn, best scripted work ever to come out of England. O'Donnell had a rare gift for writing a convincingly tough yet ultimately very female heroine, and his books and comics are well worth the time.
To quote Modesty when she loses a friend or ally, "Sleep well, Peter."
