ellid: (From Edelweiss68)
Siren had been lethargic and not interested in food for a couple of days, ever since the big cold snap earlier this week. I got really worried last night when I saw her straining to use the litterbox to no avail - I didn't know if it was constipation or something worse, but it was upsetting enough that I called the vet this morning to see if I could get her an early appointment.

I'm glad I did. My poor girl was dehydrated and had a bladder infection that was starting to spread into her kidneys, and if I'd waited until Saturday to bring her in it would have been much harder to treat.

So...one injection of antibiotics, one bag of subcutaneous fluids, and a couple hundred bucks later, and Siren is almost herself again. I'm to take her back tomorrow to go over the blood test results and maybe have her get more fluids, but her appetite is back and she's using the box, thank goodness.

Looks like the old dame has a dance or two left. :)

That was my thought - and other than needing her teeth cleaned, she's healthy and in good shape for her age :)

I'm so glad you caught her illness in time to treat her fairly easily!

So am I. She's a good old girl, and the house was eerily quiet without her yowling...:)

Poor sweeties! Ask your vet if you can get the fluids to bring home, it's pretty easy to do, and will save you both the stress of car rides.

Vet is only five minutes away, but if I lived farther away I'd consider it. She's acting pretty much normal by now:)

Something little can turn into something big so fast with cats. Glad you caught it in time.

Especially when the kidneys are involved. She was yowling away when I was on the phone with Roomie this afternoon, and I could hear my friend Barbara commenting that "she's in good voice today." Cracked me up.

Hugs and scritches.

Learning how to do the subcutaneous fluids yourself can be useful -- I've done it for a couple of my cats when they needed several days of that treatment. It makes them feel SO much better!

Oh, I'm glad the problem was fixable and not too horribly serious. *hug* *pets to kitty*
