I finally had my shoulder x-rayed this week, and got the results yesterday:

No damage.

In other words, no tears to the rotator cuff, no arthritis, no calcifications, no rips in the tendons or muscle, *nothing*. My doctor believes that it was a bad muscle strain, nothing more, and has told me to continue with 800 mg of ibuprofen three times per day. I do not need surgery or cortisone shots, and as long as I rest the arm for a few more weeks, it should be fine.

So...this pushes my master plan to become a female Robin Hood back by a couple of months, and may mean I have to defer donating blood until mid to late March. But not having surgery? I'll take it, thankyewverramuch.

I had thought I'd torn a rotator cuff a couple of years ago, that pain was intense...turned out to be a dislocated rib that was pinching the nerve that went through my shoulder and down my arm.

I hope your pain eases greatly, very soon!

Thank goodness! I'm glad for you. Rest well, so you can recover fully.

Have you considered homeopathic remedies to help things along? Arnica, both internally and as a gel, is recommended for trauma and muscle injuries. You can obtain either at Whole Foods. Good luck!

I'm glad there is no damage.
Physical Therapy in the form of gentle stretching and gradual strength training will speed things along. Ask you provider what will work best for the muscle involved. That way, you'll be less likely to re-injure the same muscle down the road.

X-rays don't show soft tissue. But soft tissue damage heals with a combination of rest and work; I would think the doctor would recommend so exercises and when to begin them but for now, yeah rest, ibuprofin, and ice/heat are good.

When I had my shoulder dislocated a couple years ago, this helped a lot. When I woke and after lunch and before bed. Then only when I woke and at bed. It helped me heal fast. *gentle hug*

Hooray for no surgery! What about therapy? Or at least in-home exercises to help strengthen the muscles again?
