While coming home tonight, the car suddenly lost power and would not accelerate. There were no diagnostic lights, engine temperature was fine, and I had the timing belt replaced just last week, so after pulling over a few seconds, I started up again and drove the last couple of miles home. It happened two more times, fairly quickly, and then was fine.

I have a call in to my mechanic and will have Sapphy towed down there tomorrow morning. I *hope* it's nothing serious....

Does she make a new sound when this happens?
Does she restart ASAP but then kind of wind down?

It could be a whole lot of things, most likely a fuel filter though. There are usually two, one on the tank and one in the engine box. Winter is hard on them.

New sound - not that I noticed, but my hearing isn't great so I'm not sure.

Starting - no problems starting, none of the service lights are on, and the engine temperature is fine. She *might* be idling a little rougher than usual but it's hard to tell.

I'll keep you posted. Thanks!

bad case = computer.
better = fuel pump
best = fuel filter.

it isn't electrical, she started back up. the things that make a car go are gas and electricity, so it's fuel if not electrical, and if it isn't fuel, it's the brains.

Hope it's cheap and quick.

let me amend; it isn't *likely* electrical, it might be bad contact.

If it's an older car, might be the fuel pump which isn't a horribly expensive repair.

I suspect a broken battery post. Since your incident sounds similar to one with our van a few years back. Hopefully stuff is still under warranty!

Last time I had a car do that sort of thing, it was on a chill, damp day (just under freezing, high humidity).

It was an old, old car with a carburetor and the carb heat wasn't working correctly. The throat of the silly thing would ice up. When I turned off the car, the residual heat of the engine would melt the ice. Good to go for a bit and then the same thing would happen.

Ah, those were the days.

That sounds exactly like what my car's doing and it's been diagnosed as a slipping transmission. As long as I don't try to accelerate too quickly, it's okay. Hopefully I'll find a way to get it repaired before it totally gives up on me.

Hope you get yours fixed too, whatever the ailment. *hugs*
