I know the feeling. When I visited the fort in Ghana where slaves had been kept prior to shipment over to the Americas it made me feel physically ill. People haven't "lived" there in over 100 years and I knew when I walked into a room where a lot of people had died - long before the tour guide told us who had stayed in the room or what happened there.
