One romance worth reading, that is. I actually downloaded a sample that didn't make me cringe at the writing, the characters, or the material culture of the historical setting.

Also, I downloaded an early Georgette Heyer for the enormous price of $.99. So far it reads like The Scarlet Pimpernel and its sequels, which is good since I really like that series.

Still not going to end up devouring romances the way I glom onto other genre fiction, but it's nice to know that I'm not completely hopeless at being a girl...:)

Glad to know you don't find the entire genre hopeless!

I first read Heyer when I was thirteen. There are very few other books that I read at that age that I still like, but Heyer's novels are old friends that I return to when I need a comfort read. My favourites were published from the 40s to the 60s, but some of the earlier ones are a lot of fun - especially Devil's Cub. Enjoy!

I loved Georgette Heyer and grabbed up all her books over many, many months and enjoyed every single one... but that was years ago and I've had to settle for other authors when I'd gone through all her works.
