They are an extremely active and reputable small town shelter near Foxboro Ma. Check em out. They do a fabulous job.

Date: 2011-12-24 02:36 pm (UTC)From:My mother has a found cat that she has been fostering, and trying to find a home for. I doubt if it is the cat for you, partly because of distance, but also because there is a question as to if this cat will get along with others. I'm sharing with you in the hopes that maybe others might know of someone seeking a cat.
Here's the story:
My mother has some outside semi-ferals that she feeds. (One of them stopped showing up this year after 5 years. She's a little sad -- it was her first outside cat and started on the whole path, but that is not the main part of this story). In late october (?) a very starved cat came streaking out of her backwoods and straight to the food bowl. This thing was so starved and preoccupied with feeding that my mother had no problem picking the cat up and putting her in a cage -- as long as the food bowl was with her the cat was fine. That weekend was one of the rescue weekends -- where cats from my area are sent down to Richmond to be fixed -- there are a few volunteer vets downt here that work with the programs here in Fredericksburg. So this cat went down to be fixed. Vet said she was about 8 months old, and had recently had a litter. Of course we have no idea where her litter was, and the vet isn't so sure that the kittens would've been born alive -- she was that starved and that young. That was one of those times where we had days of rain also -- so we all accept that the litter was a gone thing. She has been semi-fostering this cat. The things is not exactly sociable, although has gotten better. So not a true feral. Still acts like it will not have food again ever. But my kids have spent time with it and she does get along with kids. (OK, mine are not rough and know cats). She has not integrated the cats with her own three -- mostly since she does not want a fourth cat truly, but also since she is not certain that this cat will get along with others. Currently the cat is in her lower level and separated from hers.
Cat is a short-haired tortie btw. All shots up to date, fixed, and healthy. And still underweight but on a good track to being a healthy size. If you know of anyone looking for a cat in the DC Metro area jsut send them my way.
