ellid: (Impruneta patchwork cushion)
Four years of research, one trip to Italy, one Kalamazoo paper, and five rewrites later...I just signed off on the galleys of Chapter 7 of Medieval Clothing and Textiles 8, aka "Anomaly or Sole Survivor? The Impruneta Cushion and Early Italian 'Patchwork'."

The next time anyone, ANYONE, tells you that they didn't have patchwork in the Middle Ages, or tries to claim that it started in England around 1700, show them this. And watch the reaction.

Yeah. It's that good. :)

Mazeltov! It feels good to put the wraps on a publication....

so pleased for you!

Thanks!

And oh - your quilt is well under way, and looks terrific! Colors are a deep olive print, a soft sandy yellow, and a multi-colored olive green, yellow, and red print that looks like a stained glass window, plus a chocolate brown backing. All are in 100% cotton flannels per your request, with a cotton batting. I think you'll like it quite a bit!

I am totally not sweating it =) You have this odd thing called a "life," it's all good!
You made it, I love it. Plain and simple, things made by people delight me. Things made by people I care for, all the more.

Hugs.

When people start to spew about "that is not period" I say "no, really. You should talk to someone who did the research, she is very nice. Here, let me give you her name..."

I have only had to do it once and they did not even let me write down your name. On the other hand, someone else overheard and got very excited about who you were and asking your opinion on something. I don't know if she ever contacted you.

heh. The Bergentali Disco Laurel of Patchwork Joy.

I can't wait for the reaction. This is going to force a rewrite of every single history of quilting, and I couldn't be happier :)

Isn't it, though? Remember when I was first starting to do serious research on quilting and patchwork? Who knew this could be the result!

Five rewrites is called "the editing process" ;)

Annoying as it is, my experience is that working with good editors produces a much better article.

Robin is an amazing editor. It's much, much better for her suggestions (and Gale's).
