What Harry Potter books have been translated into Italian? I'm considering picking up a paperback of Prisoner of Azkaban while I'm in Florence...

BTW, am now learning basic conversational Italian in the car. I *think* I can order a un panino del formaggio and un te without the counterperson laughing hysterically, but it's not easy taming those not-so-beautiful Midwestern vowels, especially with a hearing problem....

How does one say, "I am partially deaf" in Italian? I have a feeling this may be as essential as "Sono Signora Ellid. Sono storico di trapunte. Parlate inglese?"

All but book 7 are available in Italian which is due in about 2 months so you should have no problems to pick PoA (HARRY POTTER E IL PRIGIONIERO DI AZKABAN) up.

I don't give guarantees ^_^ since I'm not a native Italian speaker and my Italian is pretty rusty but it should be "Sono parzialmente sordo.". Sordo is deaf in any case, deafness is sordità.

Ok, DON'T DO THAT. Stay as clear from the Italian books as you can.
The translator did a HORRIBLE job, and even I, who learned English on the net, could have done better. I'll just tell you this: she translated 'half-blood' and 'mudblood' both using the same word. No difference at all between the two things.

'I am partially deaf' can be translated with 'Sono parzialmente sorda' (the final a is for the female gender) and if you want a cheese sandwich you should ask for a 'panino al formaggio' ^^
Btw, what do you mean with 'storico'?

I'm trying to say "I am a historian of quilts." Is there a better word? Babelfish is pretty weak on that...:)

Mmmh, you could say 'Studio la storia delle quilts', which literally means 'I study history of quilts', because 'storico' it's not a very common word. It should cover the meaning of what you're trying to say ^^
