IIRC, in the Viet Nam era, conscientious objectors had to perform some other service (e.g. work as a medic in a VA hospital) in lieu of active duty; OTOH, if a draftable male didn't wish to do *anything* to aid the war effort, he had no choice but to leave the country. AFAIK, under the current regime, anti-choice pharmacists that don't want to dispense ECs, don't have to. Full stop.
