No, not the Manson Family. But pretty disturbing nonetheless.

And no, I did not know that this allegedly life-long feminist supported "conscience clauses" that allow pharmacists to deny emergency contraception and birth control pills to their customers. It makes me question what sort of justice she'd nominate to the Supreme Court....

I'm definitely not a Hillary fan, but I'm not buying this until I see a lot more documentation. It just doesn't fit, IMO.

Still, interesting link! Thanks!

I saw the Mother Jones article Eherenreich mentions. Spooky stuff.

The Mother Jones article seemed pretty well documented. I'm still waiting for someone to bring this up on the campaign trail and see what happens...

I'd read Sharlet's earlier article in either The Nation or The Atlantic about The Family. It was horrifying. These people really, genuinely want a theocracy, only they're being so *gentle* about it....

I'm all in favor of people following their conscience. If a pharmacist can't, in good conscience, dispense emergency contraception or birth control pills, then s/he is free to resign and look for a job at a Catholic hospital :->

I don't recall Selective Service adding any "conscience clauses" for people who can't, in good conscience, "join the army, burn women, kids, houses and villages...".

I hope this gets picked up by the more popular media. If I've had to listen to people griping about Obama's pastor, it's time for us to hear about Clinton's.

Yeah, the Family is whacked. You hear whipers of it around here, but, you know, they're powerful politicians and this is DC and I'm an official nobody.

I have to agree with the person with the cute dog icon. I really need to see more "proof", especially that she's really in bed with these people and not just networking, if even that (BUT I have not read the Mother Jones article, so maybe it's there).

I'm not a fan of hers either, but this seems a little overly picky. Picking on changing hairstyles and names? Most women change their hair and most married women use different variations of their names...I know I do. I would also want to see the actual legislations she voted against.

I thought there were provisions for conscientious objectors in the selective service...

But I'm with you on the other. Obey the rules of your workplace or go somewhere else. And don't feel free to reap any medical benefits from stem cell research either.

True. IIRC, in the Viet Nam era, conscientious objectors had to perform some other service (e.g. work as a medic in a VA hospital) in lieu of active duty; OTOH, if a draftable male didn't wish to do *anything* to aid the war effort, he had no choice but to leave the country. AFAIK, under the current regime, anti-choice pharmacists that don't want to dispense ECs, don't have to. Full stop.

That's the impression I got from Jeff Sharlet's original article a couple years back...which received zero attention from the mainstream media. Scared the hell out of *me*, though.
