More work a-coming

Tomorrow a contractor is coming over to give an estimate on having the living room painted, a bad clapboard replaced by the front door, and new flooring put down in the living room, dining room, kitchen, and hallway. Roomie has kindly agreed to be available and will take notes. I want to get at least one more estimate, preferably two, before I make a commitment.

This weekend's agenda:

Pricing refrigerators and pocket doors for the basement. Local flisters: I know that helwen used Sears and liked it, and Una and her mother used Manny's. Has anyone heard good or bad about Bernie's? Or some other appliance place? I pretty much know what I want, and no, I do not want extra appliances like air conditioners, dishwashers, and a handy new combined vacuum cleaner/toiler scum remover that will also steam clean rugs. Also, I have no use for an automatic ice maker. I just want a plain, basic refrigerator that will keep my food cold, not one that whistles a choice of five popular tunes while giving me the morning stock reports.

I rarely drink anything with ice in it, and Roomie makes ice cubes from the filtered water in her Brita pitcher. I think it's due to the difference in climate between Florida and Massachusetts...we only get really hot weather for a couple of months a year. However, I may end up with an ice maker anyway since it seems to be standard on a lot of models...;)

That's understandable, then... I don't like drinking beverages with ice if I don't have a straw; I think it's the sensation of the ice hitting my mouth and/or teeth. I'd much rather drink a plain glass of cold water from a jug kept in the fridge. But - my mixed drinks/cocktails require ice.

and DUH of course region has something to do with it. How silly of me to forget.

The tooth thing is a big reason why I don't go for ice much anymore. I have a lot of fillings and three crowns in my molars, and anything really, really cold hurts.
