Because I came back from vacation, started to feel lousy last night, and ended up going home early today and falling face-first into bed because I seem to have acquired a cold. I have no idea *why* since I haven't been around any sick people lately, but after I started to get dizzy this afternoon and three separate people heard me sneezing and said "you need to go, I'll cover for you," well, who was I to tough it out?

I'm about to take a hot bath and slug down some Nyquil. Colds SUCK.

My observation is that it's common to get sick during/just after vacations, if you travel, because you're being exposed to a whole new germ pool even if no one is obviously sick. The stress of traveling and of returning to work, with the frequent concomitant sleep issues, doesn't help. Sorry to hear you have a cold!

Agree with all of the above. Plus, air circulation on airplanes... germs go everywhere!

Hope you feel better soon!

It's called a "Fun Tax". The more Fun you had, the greater the Tax to pay.

no joking here, you should go check yourself for Swine Flu... just to be safe. Another flister of mine just found out that she had it, as that's what her Mom has now, but she was told it was just allergies.

Mucinex. Let's you actually still function (unlike the Nyquil!). Hope you are feeling better soon!

Vacation crud is often blamed on airplanes, where you're stuck with a bunch of people in a limited space, which means it's more likely that any germs that happen to be on board will spread. But it's probably just the general being exposed to a different germ pool thing.

It's too late for this time, but in my experience (1) staying hydrated during the trip, and (2) avoiding touching door handles, faucet handles and other things lots of people touch seem to help somewhat in prevention.

Read the active ingredients in Mucinex before you buy it -- IIRC it's mostly guiafenesin, which you can get lots cheaper as a generic.

Oh-oh, you caught the 'airplane' crud. Leofwyna got it bad coming home from our Europe trip several years ago; I got it not quite so bad. Seems like most everyone I know coming home on a plane gets it.
