This has been going on for decades, by the way - because Texas buys so many schoolbooks, their board's decisions have a nationwide impact. The Gablers found "mistakes," many of them bogus, in textbooks that departed from their own deeply conservative, right-wing evangelical Christian view of American history, biology, and social studies. The current school board is even worse.

Am halfway through reading it and I keep wanting to yell at these idiots. Or better yet, get them locked away for their delusions which make them dangerous to society...

I'm reading it right now, in what I wish were shock and surprise. Oh, for shock and surprise.

It's the sort of thing that makes me wonder, as a Southerner, if perhaps the War went the wrong way entirely. Some days I wish I could travel back in time to April of 61 so I could lean over and whisper to Lincoln, "It's okay, let them go. We'll all be happier in the long run." Or, it could have gone another way: fight the CSA, defeat them, emancipate the slaves, and then say, "okay, but we're still gonna let you have that whole separate country thing. Buh-bye, and don't let the screen door hit ya." And then we could all be living in Normal Land, and they could be inhabiting the United States of Jesus, and everybody would be happy. (Except for those of us still in the USJ.)
