Seriously. this column is supposed to be funny?

So glad I've never bought any of his faux folksy books, even if I do sometimes listen to his radio show because there's literally nothing else on. What was he thinking?

If I didn't already find Mr. Keillor bloody annoying, this would clinch it.

I hate how he mangles poetry in his NPR poetry 5 minutes. His droning voice ruins what may well be truly wonderful poems.

If he hates how Unitarians have different verses to "Silent Night" maybe he shouldn't ever sing "My Country 'Tis of Thee" as it will piss off the Brits as it's really, "God Save the Queen".

If I had some of his recordings, I'd chuck them on the fire to help coax the sun back!

Blessed Solstice!

He used to be pretty funny, ages ago, but now he's Garrison Keillor doing Garrison Keillor. I haven't even listened to his radio show in ages.

Wow. That is really bitter and angry--not at all the impression I had had of him. That is seriously offensive.

What a thoroughly unpleasant piece of writing. I am so glad I neither listen to his radio show or read his books.

He has a voice for print, I must say. That miserable droning makes me leap for the off switch faster than a gazelle avoiding a lion.

I disagree about his voice for print. I have a couple of his books (given to me as gifts) that I have never been able to finish reading, even when his stories from Lake Wobegon were not yet so depressing.

It's a subtly disguised insult. Saying he has a "voice for print" is implying that his voice lacks a certain mellifluousness. Like saying he has a "face for radio" -- i.e. he''s too ugly to be on TV.

That was a really random, and obnoxious piece of writing.

I guess the Cambridge liberal elite are not only ruining the social order (since, "[Emerson's] hoo-ha [has] encouraged people who might've been excellent janitors to become bold and innovative economists who run a wealthy university into the ditch") but they're omg ruining Christmas as well!

I never thought that Keillor was amusing or entertaining to listen to and this bizarre screed didn't change my mind.

*boggles*

When I first encountered Garrison Keillor, I Just Didn't Get the appeal, because I had had no experience of small-town life, but I started listening in grad school because I liked the musical guests. And I do like some of Keillor's earlier books (*loved* WLT).

I've seen him poke fun at religious denominations (including mine, the Church in Wingtips :->) in a playful, goodnatured way. I wonder what the h3ll happened to him. I remember observing that turning fifty must have been hard on him; after that, much of his humor seemed to focus on fart jokes and Bad Hair. Evidently turning sixty was even worse :-/

On the bright side, reading the comments is actually refreshing for once instead of being the painful exercise it usually is. I was a little shocked when I read it and have to wonder if there is satire meant to be there that I'm just not getting.

That said, I have to admit I've never been a fan of his and I don't ever see becoming one in the future.

This makes me sad because I am a fan of his.

How hateful and contrary to the view my friends and I have of him.
